2020 Hapalua Postponed
The Honolulu Marathon Association, after much deliberation, has made the decision to postpone the 2020 Hapalua – Hawaii’s Half Marathon.
The Hapalua was scheduled for Sunday, April 5 in Honolulu.
We know that all of you have trained hard for and have been looking forward to the Hapalua and we are as disappointed as you are in being forced to take this decision. We must take action together to stop the spread of the Coronavirus and Covid-19.
Although there are few documented cases of Covid-19 in Hawaii, we have to take into consideration the international aspect of the event. 40% of the field travel to Hawaii to participate. Equally important is the well being of our staff and volunteers.
Covid-19 has now been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.
By acting responsibly now we can collectively stop the spread of Covid-19 and get life back to normal.
What happens next.
We will be working with the City of Honolulu to find an alternate date in the fall for the Hapalua.
If we are unable to schedule a date in 2020, your entry will be deferred to the 2021 Hapalua at no additional charge.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. This decision has not been taken lightly and we believe it is the responsible response to this ongoing health emergency.
